We tour the tranquil backwaters of Kerala that is fringed with palm trees and old historic forts. All this scenic wealth backed with some of the most beautiful art forms like Kalaripayattu, Mohiniattam and Kathakali. We also take you to Tamil Nadu, the ancient land of temples, religion and culture. We set out to discover the highlights of South India.

Day 1: ARRIVE CHENNAI

Upon arrival at Chennai International Airport, you will be met by a representative and transferred to the hotel where you will be assisted for the check in. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 2: CHENNAI

After breakfast proceed for tour of the city to witness its rich architectural and cultural wealth. Visit the Government Museum and Art Gallery, to see the art and bronze gallery (closed on Fridays and public holidays). Also visit the famous 16th century Kapaleeshwarar temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, sacred to Tamil Shivaties. Non-Hindus are only allowed up to the outer courtyard. Later visit Fort St. George and in evening take a walk at the Marina Beach and see the Light house, memorials, statues and gardens alongside the beachfront. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 3: CHENNAI - MAHABALIPURAM

Morning leave for Mahabalipuram by car en-route visit Kanchipuram. It is the ancient capital of the Pal lavas famous as a city of 1000 Temples and still has 124 shrines. Arrive Mahabalipuram and check in at hotel. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 4: MAHABALIPURAM - PONDICHERRY

Morning leave for Pondicherry en route visit the magnificent rock temples and carvings in Mahabalipuram. Five Rathas (chariots), ceremonial chariots, rock-cut monoliths, named after the 5 Pandavas. In the afternoon sightseeing tour of Pondicherry visiting Sri Aurobindo Ashram founded in 1920. Visit Pondicherry Museum having a very good sculpture gallery and a section of archaeological finds from the Roman settlement at Arikamedu. Also visit Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 5: PONDICHERRY - TANJORE

After breakfast at the resort, we hit the road again, to travel to yet another beautiful monastery, Lamayuru. Once capable of housing 400 monks, this monastery is home to about 150 monks in its main hall. Twice a year, the monastery holds dance festivals where monks from neighbouring gompas take part in too. After visiting the oldest monastery of the region, we travel back to Leh for an overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 6: TANJORE - TRICHY - MADURAI

Morning leave for Madurai en route visit Trichy. Visit the 'Rock Fort Temple which rises abruptly to a height of 273 ft. A steep staircase cut into the rock leads up to the Fort.Upon arrival at Madurai, check-in at the hotel. Evening visit the Meenakshi Temple & Tirrumalai Nayak Palace and Thirumohur (1O km). This place has its legendary origin in the distant past when Devas (Gods) and Asuras (Demons) churned the ocean to get Amritham (nectar). Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 7: MADURAI - PERIYAR

Morning leave for Periyar. On arrival check in at hotel. Afternoon game viewing at the wind life sanctuary by boat. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 8: PERIYAR - ALLEPEY - COCHIN

Early morning leave for Cochin. En-route, enjoy a cruise on the Backwaters at Allepey. Proceed for a cruise onboard a boat along the palm-fringed waterways of Kerala Innumerable lagoons, lakes, canals, estuaries and the deltas of forty-four rivers make up the 900 km backwater network of Kerala.In this world of simple pleasures, you'll skim past ancient Chinese fishing nets water lilies, lush paddy fields, coir villages, rustic homes, temples and coconut groves and witness a way of life little changed through the centuries. Continue drive to Cochin. On arrival check in at hotel. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 9: COCHIN

Morning city tour of Cochin. Visit to the Dutch Palace, St. Francis Church and the Santa Cruz Basilica. While in the area one can also view the unique and still-in-use "Chinese Fishing Nets" which were introduced by the Chinese traders in the 14th Century. The tour ends in the Fort Kochi area where you can walk through the historical Dutch and Portuguese buildings including Jewish synagogue. In the evening, witness Kathakali dance performance. It is the classical dance-drama of Kerala, dates from the 17th century and is rooted in Hindu mythology. Kathakali has a unique combination of literature, music, painting, acting and dance. Kathakali draws heavily from drama and is danced with elaborate masks and costumes. Overnight stay at hotel.
